Year 6 Morocco

Class Teacher: Miss Lilley

Summer 2

I hope that everybody has had a wonderful half-term break and are feeling well-rested. Continuing with our normal operating procedures, the students will handwash and sanitise their hands regularly throughout the day and the classroom and toilets will be regularly cleaned. The students will be in one year 6 bubble - this will mean that they will be having their break and lunchtimes together. The students health and well-being is our top priority and as a result, we will be completing learning at the pace of the students to ensure that they are happy. Small assemblies in the hall will begin to take place after half-term.

This half-term, we will be studying the topic Tomorrow's World. In this topic, we will be looking to the future and considering what it will hold in relation to technology and the world around us. In science, we will focus on electricity and building simple circuits. We will investigate how a range of different factors affect the components in a circuit (including the number of cells used, the length of the cable and the position of switches). In writing, we will be looking at the Jane Considine unit 'Thornhill', where the children will be writing their own ghost stories.  In DT, we will be using LEGO WeDo to investigate, model and design solutions in order to effectively program LEGO models. We will also be continuing to work on the year 6 performance of HoodWinked, as well as beginning our ukulele lessons before the end of the year.

If you have any questions or queries about your child's learning, do not hesitate to come and see me at the classroom door at the end of the school day. Alternatively, you can make an appointment with me after school. Thank you for your cooperation so far and for adjusting to the new operating procedures in school. We really appreciate your support!

Homework Homework will be added to the student's One Note pages.  Sometimes, I will set a research assignment on Teams too. I will make the students aware of their homework each week. They must also be completing Doodle Spell, Maths and English as well as TT Rockstars and Lexia. Spellings will be sent home on a Friday and will be tested the following Friday.

Reading - It is vitally important that the children are reading at home and that parents indicate that they have read at home in the student's reading record. Reading records are expected in school everyday and this will be monitored so that we can support the children's reading and gain maximum outcomes for the children's reading skills and enjoyment.

Times Tables are practised in school daily and should be practised at home as much as possible. The children have TT Rockstars and Doodle Maths logins, which they can access in school and at home via the Internet.

PE days: Tuesday and Friday.

Our P.E days are Tuesday and Friday. On these days, your child will need to come dressed in their full P.E kit.  If it is cold, your child might need black tracksuit bottoms, as we will be having lots of our P.E outside. The children can wear their purple school jumpers or cardigans in P.E. They shouldn't be wearing hooded tops. We will be beginning swimming on a Tuesday afternoon this half-term. Please make sure that your child brings their swimming kit, swimming hat and a towel with them on this day.

School uniform - Please ensure the children are dressed in their full school uniform.                                                                                                .
