Welcome back! We hope that you have had a lovely and safe summer holiday.

We are looking forward to an exciting year ahead in Year 4! Our first fantastic topic is 'I Am Warrior!'. During this topic, we will be learning all about the Romans and their way of life. To get our new topic off to a great start, we will be having a 'Roman Day' on Wednesday 16th September. We will be dressing up as Romans and welcoming a real Roman soldier in to our school! They will be putting on a special workshop where we will be trying out lots of different craft activities, learning to march like a Roman soldier and even having a Roman feast! In our English lessons, we will be using video clips and books about the Romans to help us write a diary entry and a non-fiction information booklet about how to be a Roman soldier. In maths, we will be learning our Roman numerals in conjunction with our topic and improving our place value knowledge. We will be practising our times tables daily, focusing firstly on securing our knowledge of the 3, 4 and 8 times tables. In our theme lessons this half term, we will be learning all about the Roman Empire and its impact on Britain. We will be designing and making our own shields and learning all about what it was actually like to be different Roman citizens. Please have a look at our knowledge organiser attached below for more information about what specific topics we will be learning about. We are also looking forward to expanding our knowledge and learning new skills in computing lessons, music lessons, PE lessons, RE lessons and so much more!

Our whole school rules are:

1. Be ready

2. Be respectful

3. Be safe

PE

Our PE days this term are a MONDAY and WEDNESDAY. Please make sure that your child's PE kit is in school for these days, including trainers. We will NOT be going swimming for the foreseeable future due to Covid-19 but we will keep you updated if this becomes possible later in the year.

Homework

Homework will be set for the children online each week on a Friday. The children have log ins in their reading records and we have gone through how they can access their homework online in class. Any questions please just ask.

In addition to this, the children will have weekly spellings, which we ask pupils to practise alongside doing their homework. Spellings will be tested and new spellings set on Fridays. Children will also be tested on their times tables daily and we ask that they learn these at home as much as possible!

Reading Books

Library books will be changed as often as possible in the classroom. Children can access Accelerated Reader tests at home and in school daily which they will need to pass to choose a new book in the classroom. They can also access these at home using their Year 4 launchpad.
